He is an outspoken researcher in the issue of protection for Indonesian woman workers. He speaks from the perspective of law and human rights. He attended the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court in den Haag, and also the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (2006)..

The headmaster of the Pesantren Dar al Tauhid Boarding School in Arjawinangun, Cirebon. He founded various NGOs, such as RAHIMA (Jakarta), Fahmina (Cirebon), WCC Balqis, and the Puan Amal Hayati Foundation (Jakarta). The Vice Chairperson in the Local Parliament of Cirebon (1999-2004). He wrote various articles on women’s Fiqh, gender problems in the Pesantren and pluralism.

The Lecturer for the subject of Law and Gender at the Attahiriyah Islamic University in Jakarta, a lecturer at the Anthropology of Law at the Faculty of Social and Political Science, the University of Indonesia. She founded and chairs the Indonesian Association of Lecturers and Observers of Gendered Perspective Legislations (APPHGI).

She is active in the issues of women’s reproductive rights, representation of women in the public institutions, gender budgeting, and unconstitutional policies.

The founder and chairperson of the Communication Forum for Political Women of the city of Jember (2004). The consultant for the Legal Drafting and Policies for the Local Government Reform Initiative program of the Department of Interior (2006)..

sylvana-maria Sylvana Maria Apituley., M.Th

Since 1997, actively fights for gender equality especially amongst the Protestant and mixed-religion communities. Active in MADIA and participated at the foundation of Indonesian Conference on Religion and Peace/ICRP in 1999. Teaches “History of the Indonesian Christianity” and “Feminist Theology” since 2004, and started the Human Rights Education at the Jakarta Theology Institute. A speaker and facilitator at the gender-equality and human rights trainings in the churches of the Indonesian Council of Churches (PGI).

As a member of parliament, actively involved in the issues of freedom of information, protection of workers, and agrarian reform. An initiator and chairperson of the Presidium of the Indonesian Parliamentary Women Caucus (2002).

Has been working with women’s issues since 1997 with Solidaritas Perempuan, in the problems of women and conflicts, and the woman migrant workers. One of the researchers of the Woman Migrant Workers in the Middle East. One of the founders of Migrant Workers’ Advocacy Consortium (Kopbumi).
